The topic "Risk management in medical engineering" becomes more important the last years. The Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices records more and more reports of so called "incidents". This includes disorders, device-outfalls, changes of device characteristics or performance but also label- or instruction deficits. Serious incidents need to be reported to "The Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices" so device errors causing the death or serious worsening of the condition of the patient.
ISO 14971 (european version EN ISO 14971) deals with the application of risk management at medical devices. It's a setting for effective management of risks connected with the application of medical devices in health care. The goal is to detect risks in time, to estimate, rate and especially control it as well as monitor the effectiveness of this controlling enduring.
